I think Abigail Williams is a strong female character because she rebels against such a strict society. During this time, women were suppose to do as their told, and never stand out. Abigail defied the law and did what she wanted to. For example, Abigail and the girls danced in the forest even though the community forbids it. I also think shes a strong character in the play because she plans ahead with what she wants to do. For example, when Abigail wanted Elizabeth to be arrested, she stuck a needle into the poppet. Abigail went to extreme lengths and even stuck the needle into her stomach. It shows that she is determined to get what she wants. Compared to Mary Warren, who does not exactly know what she wants in life, Abigail is very confident and independent.
I do consider Abigail as a strong female character because even when her both of parent died she can still be able to stand tall and have a lot of respect by the girl gang. Also she is strong in a way by controlling the whole situation in the town. Another act is that she was still able to get rid of the blame in the court when the finger was pointed at her. Abigail is very confident for her age which shows a strong side of her. The weak side Abigail is that she is doing the entire witch hunt for a man, John Proctor. From all things Abigail is weak when it comes to love. She shows no love to Reverend Parris when she robs all his money. But that’s because he was his uncle. Not like Proctor she had a physical relationship with him. Evidence that shows Abigail as weak is in act 4 when they only mention her once and is because she had run away. This shows that when her problems go out of control she leaves. Because truly she doesn’t know what to do.
I believe that Abigail Williams is a strong female character in The Crucible. Women in this time period were considered to be very weak. They were expected to just do what the men say. However, Abigail continues to be a defiant person throughout the story. She is not scared at all to be dancing in the woods or laughing in church, even when these actions are forbidden by the community. It is also important to know that she grew up as an orphan. She was able to become quite independent without her parents. I think the biggest quality Abigail has that makes her a strong female character is that she knows what she wants. Most women in this time period did not even have an opinion for many matters, yet Abigail knows what she wants and strives to obtain it. She often uses her good looks to reach her goals. Abigail is a very manipulative person that is able to persuade people. This aspect of Abigail gives her power in the story. Although rumors were going around town about Abigail, she was able to put on an effective act and convince the town that she was some sort of saint. Many instances in the play show that Abigail Williams is a strong and independent female.
I do believe that Abigail Williams is a strong female character in The Crucible. In the time period of The Crucible, women were known to be weak; in a way that the men were more dominant and held more power. Women followed the men’s orders, women were the ones who had to stay at home and just cook and clean, and women were to look simple in order not to stand out. Abigail however, did what she wanted to do even if it meant going against the rules. For example, she and the girls went out in the woods late out night naked and dancing. The girls clearly know that dancing is strictly forbidden, but they chose to do it still. I think Abigail is a strong character because she says whatever she wants. For example, she talks to John Proctor about him wanting her. She wasn’t scared to speak what was on her mind.
I believe that Abigail is a strong female character in the play because of she obtains power and how she uses and manipulates it. Being a young women with a low social class, she has to obtain her power through other people, which is one reason why she wants John Proctor in the first place. She is the leader of the girls as they fear her so she manipulates them to her command. Being of low social class and an orphan, she is fearless and unafraid of accusing her fellow citizens for her own gain. It is astonishing to see how quickly she went from being in one of the lowest social classes to the saint of the town. She is not afraid to speak her mind nor is she afraid to cross the line, which is why she is a strong female character.
I believe Abigail to be a strong female character in the play because she knows how to manipulate. In the play she is considered to have a powerful role compared to the other female characters. Women during that time were portrayed to be weak and passive, while as Abigail shed these traits and put on the characteristics of a strong and fearful person and also has her own gang of girls. She defied the rules set out in the town unlike the other women who obeyed the rules and dare not go against them, examples like dancing in the woods and laughing in church. She was able to talk freely about what was on her mind because she had nothing to lose. She is able to steer the town's troubles in her favor and when she is blamed, she has the ability to divert the attention to another person or situation.
I think Abigail is a strong female character in the play. For example, Abigail isn't afraid of her uncle Parris when he finds them dancing in the forest. She talks to Parris like how she talks to everyone else even though he is a powerful man in the community and he is her uncle. Abigail also goes for whatever she wants, like John Proctor. She doesn't care that he's married, and she still goes after him. Abigail then breaks the rules by dancing in the forest. She doesn't society tie her down because she does her own thing. Abigail also shows her strength as a female by not following the rules in society. She is a rebellious girl, and she shows her rebellious personality by dancing in the forest with her friends.
I consider Abigail a strong female character in the play because she has characteristics that can persuade people’s minds. She grew up without parents and was able to raise herself. Many people recognize women to be weak in the society of Salem. On the other hand, Abigail is fearless and did whatever she wanted to such as dancing in the forest even though it’s forbidden. She uses her physical features when talking to Proctor to achieve what she wants. Also, she can easily manipulate people’s mind and divert the attention especially during the court when blame is on her. All of these characteristics separates Abigail from the rest of the women in Salem and makes her a powerful character.
In Arthur Miller's play, The Crucible, I do not consider Abigail a strong female character in the play for several reasons. Personally, I portray a "strong character" as one who is rational and honest, makes good judgements, and maintains self-respect. Growing up independently, Abigail Williams can be considered strong in the sense of taking care of one's self; however, she doesn't necessarily make the right decisions in life. First of all, Abigail is known to be manipulative and rebellious. She dances in public, laughs during church, and controls other people's way of thinking in order to use them for her benefit -- actions that I do not find rational at all. Abigail does not make the perfect judgements throughout her life; she eventually commits adultery with John Proctor and desires revenge from his wife, Elizabeth. Also, Abigail is known for not being honest; she is eventually responsible for sending innocent people to their unfortunate deaths. These actions and characteristics fits my portrayal of strong; therefore, I do not consider Abigail a strong female character, but rather, I consider her a despicable one.
In my opinion, Abigail Williams is a strong character in this story because she knows how to manipulate people. She can manipulate people by: lying/acting, blackmailing, and also by her looks. Since she is manipulative, she is more likely to win any fight because she could get anyone on her side. In some ways, she could be the weakest character, because she has no family or friends, which means that she's alone.
I consider Abigail to be a strong character because she can manipulate all these people how she wants. She is very quick to think which helps her manipulate because she can twist words and make up lies more easily. Abigail is the fearless leader of a group of girls. She has scared them into not saying anything. This proves yet again how strong she is; Abigail has power over a group of girls that could easily overthrow her. Abigail has so much power because she doesn't care what happens to her. She has nothing so she tries to make something of that nothingness. By spreading lies she has become somebody powerful, more powerful than she already was.
I consider Abigail Williams a strong character in the play because if she wasn't she wouldn't be able to manipulate all of the people getting in her way. Even though she is a young girl, she can easily get everybody on her side and to go against each other. I believe that she has to play a strong character because if she was weak, everybody would step all over her, and because of her previous background will be an outcast. The saying "Anything I say goes", fits quite well with Abigail Williams. Another characteristic Abigail has is her ability to distract people with her beauty. People think that because she is so beautiful, she is innocent and sweet. But some people are smarter than that and know her true colors and soon found out how powerful she really is.
I believe Abigail Williams is a strong character in the play because of her manipulative personality. Even though she isn't the oldest in the group, all the girls listen to her because they are afraid of her. She holds the power to accuse anyone of being a witch because all the girls follow her directions because they don't want her to hurt them. Also, Abigail watched her parents get killed so she has nothing to lose. Therefore, she is willing to go out of her way to get what she wants since she isn't afraid. Abigail goes through all the trouble of drinking blood and started the whole witchcraft hysteria because she wanted John Proctor back. No matter how much trouble she has to go through, she doesn't give up easily on what she wants.
Abigail is a strong woman in many ways. She is a woman who has lost everything. This alone makes Abigail strong because she has nothing to loose, but everything to gain. This allows Abigail to do many things, normal woman may not be able to do. For instance, Abigail fights for what she wants, an example being John Proctor. Abigail fights for him in many ways, ignoring all consequences and eliminating whatever is on the path to this such as Elizabeth and much more. Abigail is also able to manipulate others, such as the girls in the group and proctor to some degree. This kind of leadership or manipulation represent a type of person who has strong character, such as Abigail
I do not consider Abigail a strong female character because I think that she is rebellious, manipulative and isn't very honest. Abigail commits adultery and she becomes dependent on John Proctor. She‘s probably only interested in him because he is very well respected in the town and respect is something that Abigail does not have. When she lies about being a witch, she begins to accuse innocent people. She abuses her newly found power by accusing Elizabeth Proctor of witchcraft. Abigail does that because although John broke off their relationship she still wants the respect that could come from being with him.
I do believe that Abigail Williams is a strong character as a woman. In the Puritan society, women are seen as to do whatever they are told to do, but she still rebels against it. In Abigail's world, there's no such thing as law so she does whatever is needed to get her way. For example, the other girls didn't want to dance in the forest but she manipulated them. And this leads that she is an orphan and no social status, she doesn't have anything to loose so she does everything. For example, she set the needle inside the poppet that was given to Elizabeth to make it seem like she tried to murder Abby. Truth is that Abby stuck the needle and shows that she is determined.
In all honestly i believe Abigail represents both opinions. On one side Abigail is manipulative and clever upon her work. She keeps a keen eye on people and knows how to work around them and their feelings/personalities and uses it to her advantage. But if you think deeply about it, basically Abigail loses ideas near the end and runs away, which some what shows her being weak. If she was as strong as interpreted i'm sure she would have acted differently instead of running. It's just when all the pressure finally comes down to her, you can see her weaken as a character.
Even though Abigail's a terrible, cruel, cold-hearted character, she is, in fact, actually fairly strong. Only a mere child (age 11 in some, 17 in the one the class read) is able to put an entire village into mass hysteria. She manipulates those of high authority and brings people into her little circle that adds onto the hysteria which makes her almost invincible. Her rebellious personality indeed was suspenseful and painful to read, but she really adds a lot onto the story.
I consider Abigail a strong women for her age. She grew up without parents and/or a reputation. She is the only teenage that can get the whole town to believe her words. Even though she is consider all those horrible names to some people; she's actually one of the only teenager that stood up for herself and raised her reputation.
I think Abigail is a very strong character in the book. she is the underdog of the story. At a very young age she witness he parents getting killed thus growing up without a mom or dad. Despite this, she is able to rise into power near the end of the book. Many fear her, because she hold their life in hand. she is also really good at planing, and changing herself to fit the challenge at hand. this is shown though out the book. for example, when John comes to see Abby, Abigail displays her talent. John is seen in town as a strong, honorable, and rightful man. yet she is able to have some influence of some short. She is a master manipulator. when in court, she easily controls the flow. the things she done is in-moral to our society, but just because its the wrong thing to do doesn't make her a weak character. In fact it makes her a strong, if not the strongest character when compare to Elizabeth who always does the moral thing.
I believe that Abigail is both a strong and weak character at the same time. Even though she went against the norms of Puritan society, it was for her selfish reasons and was used as an excuse rather than for her own personal beliefs. However, the fact that a 17 year old girl like herself could completely manipulate and control the fate of many people’s lives goes to show how powerful she was. While she had her eyes on her goals and knew what she wanted, her actions and ways were quite derailed as the trials were starting to come to light. Ultimately, she ran away in order to escape responsibility and shows her cowardly character.
In some ways, I consider Abigail a strong female character, but in other ways, I don't. She is a strong character in the sense that she grew up with no blood related parents, also having lived with the pain of seeing them killed in front of her when she was very young. She also lives with the names and insults she gets from the other villagers. She also was able to lead the other girls during the witch hysteria in Salem through fear and strength which in a sense is pretty admirable. However, I consider her a weak character due to how instead of just confessing that they were dancing in the woods to the other people and taking the punishment, she would start this whole witch-hunt in order to avoid the punishments. She is also seen as dependent on Proctor for giving her the love she didn't really have. Then at the end of the play, she flees Salem knowing what would happen if this were to continue.
I believe that Abigail Williams is a strong female character, yet a weak one as well because of different reasons. Abigail is a young, beautiful girl and because of this quality, alone, she can manipulate others. Abigail also acts as the dominant person of her little group; whatever she says goes. She isn't afraid to say whatever she pleases and she stops at nothing to get what she wants. On the contrary, I also think that Abigail is weak because she has nothing or no one in her life that shows her love. Because of this, she longed to be loved and depended her love on one person, John Proctor. Thus, her happiness depended on him, making herself vulnerable.
I do not consider Abigail to be a strong female character in The Crucible. A strong character, I believe, is one that is honest, trustworthy and respectable. Abigail is neither. Abigail's actions resulted in the death of many innocent people. She repeatedly lied to get out of trouble, and purposely lied to get her enemies in to trouble. Abigail has no problem going back on her word making her an untrustworthy person. For example, she steals all of Parris's money, this is a heartless crime due to the fact that Parris cared for her more than any other person. Also, I believe that Abigail is a coward. When she faced punishment and was unable to lie her way out of it, she ran away. She was not strong enough to live up to her crimes. Instead, She ran from her troubles. For these reasons, I do not think Abigail is a strong character in The Crucible.
I consider Abigail a strong female character. She has lost everyone in her life which empowers her to pursue her desires such as John Proctor. She is also the leader of the gang of girls in Salem and threatens the girls if they turn from her or reveal their secret. Another feature Abigail that makes her a powerful character is that she is very manipulative by using her emotions while talking to different people.
I consider Abigail Williams a strong female character in Arthur Miller's play due to the fact that she was able to make the best of her situation. She was a young, beautiful orphan who had no one and her name was somewhat spoiled, but still managed to become a saint. A not so strong character would not have even been noticed in the book like some of the girls in Abigail's "gang" like Susanna. Those girls were more followers and weren't strong characters, but Abigail made herself known and took control of the situations placed in front of her. She made herself capable of doing anything as well as convincing everyone to see her side and her side only. Her stories were solid and difficult to prove wrong which is what John Proctor tried to accomplish towards the end of the book. John Proctor failed and was convicted himself of being a follower of the devil. A character that was not a strong female character would definitely not be capable of accomplishing all that Abigail did. This is why i consider Abigail Williams a strong female character.
I consider Abigail Williams a strong female character in Arthur Miller's play. It is the actions of Abigail that causes the hysteria of witchcraft to be going on around the town of Salem. Abigail is the root cause of a majority of the problems the other characters face in the play. Why Betty was unconscious, Abigail got Betty involved with a ritual. Why so many of the townspeople are convicted of witchcraft, Abigail accused them. Why Elizabeth was suspicious of John Proctor, Abigail slept with John. Why Elizabeth is convicted of witchcraft, Abigail framed Elizabeth by having Mary Warren give her a poppet that had a needle in the stomach. Why Mary Warren accused John Proctor of working with the Devil, Abigail pressured Mary into getting her back to her side. It is because of the actions of Abigail Williams that makes her a strong female character in Arthur Miller's play, The Crucible.
I believe that Abigail Williams is a very strong female character in Arthur Miller's play because she's very confident and she is not afraid to speak her mind. Abigail is a very manipulative young girl, she uses so many innocent people to her advantage and she doesn't even think it is wrong. She has nothing to lose, that is why she is doing whatever she wants to do. Abigail is also very seductive; for example, she seduced John Proctor in order to fulfill her loss of a man figure in her life. She does not really have anyone to call her family, that is why she loves John Proctor in order to feel that love every girl needs. In the other hand, Abigail is also very weak because of John Proctor. She fights for Proctor's love with Elizabeth Proctor, and she feels that she only deserves his love and not her. That is why she has been trying to get rid of Elizabeth Proctor throughout the whole play.
I think that Abigail Williams is somewhat of a strong female character because she has the traits of a woman who is able to control and manipulate people around her. Not only is she powerful, but I feel that she has gone through many situations in her life that will almost definitely make her a weak person. The fact that she hides that part of her, shows just how strong she is in the inside and outside. She can be a very strong person, just not in a good way because she uses her power to accuse people which led to many deaths of innocent lives. Surprisingly enough, Abigail is too young and is stronger than most of the women in the story which I think is why she is feared among them.
I consider Abigail to be a strong female character in Arthur Miller's The Crucible. Many of the major events in the book revolve around Abigail. She is one of the first to accuse people of witchcraft. When she was backed into a corner Abigail was able to push the blame onto others and make it seem like she was a saint. Abigail also had relations with John Proctor and was able to convince everyone that Elizabeth was a witch just so she could have John. Even when there was evidence against her she turned the court against others.Lastly, she was able to bring Mary Warren back on her side when she was being pushed into a corner by her. These are the reasons Abigail Williams is a strong female character in The Crucible.
I do believe Abigail Williams is a strong female character if not the strongest. She is the puppet master of the whole witch craft hysteria. She controls all of the girls who are accusing, and accuses people who have burned her in the past. When people stop believing in the whole hysteria she flees with all of Paris's money. In another light though she could be seen as a weak character because the whole hysteria is started because of a guy, John Proctor, this shows her flaws and her adolescent ways.
I consider Abigail Williams a strong and weak female character in Arthur Miller's play. Abigail is such a strong character because her actions and lies were able to cause a witch hysteria that affected a whole town, just to get what she wanted. She was able to do this because she wasn't scared, she had nothing to lose but everything to gain. Her ambitions would have gotten her very far and she could have become a very important person in the town of Salem, but John Proctor was her weakness. She lost everything for a man that never cared for her and ends up running away . Running away shows how she is a coward and weak.
Yes, I consider Abigail Williams a strong character in Arther Millers play. Although she is very strong on the outside, she is a very insecure girl on the inside. She has had a major lack of love and attention in her life, which causes her to force people to fear her, rather than allow people to love her for who she truley is. Despite the lack of love in her life, Abigail still stands strong. Abigail uses her manipulative ways to blame others for things that are not true to make her seem like a saint, so she can be loved by others. In some ways, Abigail is weak in insecure, but in another aspect, she is very strong and is able to stand up for herslef.
Yes I consider Abigail Williams a strong female character in The Crucible. To me, Abigail shows that she is formidable and precocious throughout the novel. Because of the tragic murders of her parents, Abigail was forced to mature and learn to support herself. She uses her beauty and intelligence to manipulate people to do her bidding. Abigail manipulates the people around her so she can have Proctor to herself. Her intelligence shows when she was able to create a story to avoid trouble that made her the saint of the town. Even though she was a teen, she held the lives of all the townspeople in her hands. Abby is also an excellent leader. She and the girls that made the accusations of witchcraft were like a gang. All of them followed Abigail’s orders; all feared to oppose her. -Eric Nguyne P.4
I consider Abigail Williams a strong female character in Arthur Miller's play. She has no choice but to be strong because her parents were murdered brutally in front of her and she has to do everything by herself. Being independent makes a difference in Abigail because she doesn't have any love in her life. Independence usually makes a person more in control. That is how Abigail is so controlling in this play. She takes advantage of her independence and is able to manipulate anyone because she has nothing to lose.
Why yes, Abigail Williams is indeed a strong, if not the strongest character in the play. She was able to successfully manipulate the whole town into believing that there were witches among them, albeit being convicted as a witch herself. With no parents, she was forced to become an independent woman, and during this time period, there was not much that women were able to.
I do not consider Abigail a strong character for several reasons. First of all, she lies about her true self to others. Many would argue that she lies to survive, but she acts like a coward by hiding her life to almost everyone. Also, when Abigail runs away, she is running away from her problems rather than standing up to them.
For a girl in a Puritan society during the 1600's, I do consider Abigail to be a strong female character in the play, but she is definitely not the strongest. Abigail witnessed her parents getting killed, for this traumatizing event made her stronger in a way where she became independent. Growing up with these events made her who she is; this lack of love caused her to become manipulative. Being an orphan and a servant, she was alone and depended on herself to make any decision, whatever the costs may be. Abigail does lack love and turns to depend on John Proctor to be a source of love. Abigail's lack of love makes her weak, but also makes her stronger than ever. Mercedez Lam Period 4
I consider Abigail Williams as both a strong and weak character in the story. When she was young, she witnessed her parents getting killed, and this event causes her tolerance for danger. She is an orphan with nothing to lose, so she does as she pleases. Abigail is driven and knows what she wants and how to get it. She is also young, beautiful, mischievous, and uses that to her advantage. In the 1600's, people, especially women, were not allowed to express themselves as we do now in the present. Despite that, Abigail showed quite a dominating personality. She is the leader of her girl gang, knows how to shift from one mood to another, and is talented in diverting the attention away from herself. She is very manipulative and this helps her throughout the story, although in the end, she runs away, which shows that she is not strong enough to carry out her plans. She becomes a harlot and this depicts her cowardly side.
I consider Abigail Williams a very strong character in the story. I believe this because she can handle a lot of problems and situations on her on. She also has no fear when doing this actions too. Just like when she was in court against Proctor and Mary Warren, she could easily lie to the judge's face and make him believe her. Abigail in the beginning of the story, wasn't very high in power, but she was able to get a high position in the court. Abigail has disassembling looks and personalities too, which can make her even more powerful than she already is. All of these are reasons why i believe Abigail is a very strong character in this story
I do consider Abigail Williams to be a strong female character, especially living in the Puritan lifestyle. She had to endure some pretty hard tasks like watching her parents being assaulted by Native Americans, and being killed by the Native Americans as well. At the time of the affair, she fell madly in love for John Proctor, and when his wife was suspicious of lechery Abigail was fired; upon being fired, she did whatever she could to win back John, for that was drinking the chicken blood. When the witch trails started, Abigail gained another power that time. Besides having able to disassemble [a man] with her looks, she could now take anyone down that she dislikes just by being a key witness to witchcraft. Using her position as a key witness, she targeted Elizabeth Proctor as a "witch".
I believed Abigail Williams plays a strong character in Arthur Miller's play. For a girl her age, she is fearless. Even though she is the youngest one, she is someone who holds control and power over the rest of the girls. In their period of time, women were suppose to follow orders and were under the class of men; Abigail Williams sets this law aside and completely disobeys it for her own beneficial needs. Most importantly, she is a person who knows she wants and isn't afraid to go after it. She has her own abilities and ways to get into people's minds. For example, she wants Elizabeth to die; and in order for that to happen, she is willing to stick a needle in her own stomach convincing the judge to believe that Elizabeth is a witch. Abigail Williams might not be the greatest person out there, but I feel that her having to witness the death of her own parents and still having the ability to keep her head up throughout life proves to me that she holds that spot of a strong character in this play. She does what she has to do in order to survive, and she will not let anything get in her way.
I think Abigail Williams is a strong female character in the play. For one thing, she is aware of how society is acting in the sense that she knows how to use these popular witchcraft trials to her advantage. She is also aware of her ability to charm and persuade people, which is how she gets most of the town to believe in her accusations. Abigail also realizes that she has nothing to lose, which gives her a huge sense of bravery. She has no parents, no job, and no real money to her name, which is why she doesn't care about how anyone sees her anymore. I think Abigail is also very intelligent because she has a sense for people's weaknesses, and can attack them based on that. When Mary Warren tries to speak against Abigail in court, Abigail gets the girls to all gang up on her and pressure Mary to come back to her side. Although she is seen as a manipulative and evil girl, I think Abigail is a very strong character.
I believe Abigail Williams is a strong character for the following reasons, she had really good looks which helped her persuade people towards her plans, she was able to control a whole group of girls who didn't dare betray her, and lastly she was manipulative enough to fool the court and contempt the court. All her plans were able to be followed accordingly because she was such a good liar that she was a wolf dressed as a sheep. Abigail basically made herself the predator among the prey. These are the exact reasons why she was a strong character in Arthur Miller's play "The Crucible."
I consider Abigail Williams, in Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, to be a female character that is strong in personality but weak in position. Throughout the story, you see Abigail’s strong personality characteristics, such as her beauty, ability to manipulate, control over others, and boldness. An example from the story where you see all of these traits in action is when Abigail and John Proctor speak alone about Betty’s affliction in the Parris’ house. Although John Proctor tells her he wants nothing to do with her, she uses her beauty and boldness to tease him and get physically closer to him. Then, she cries, yells and attempts to seduce in an effort to manipulate John. When that doesn't work, she resorts to subtle blackmail to control him. In these respects, Abigail is very strong. In contrast to her personality, Abigail’s position as an unemployed, widely disliked female in a restrictive Puritan society is almost powerless. Although her uncle is a pastor and holds a lot of influence in this theocratic society, almost none of this applies to Abigail. She is young and unmarried, so she doesn't own any lands or have connections or respect through her husband, the way Elizabeth Proctor does. There are many rumors around town about her being ‘loose’ and a harlot, and no home in town will hire her after she is fired by Elizabeth. With no position, money or real power of her own, except over other teenage girls, Abigail isn't a very strong female. Her true strength comes from her ability to get whatever she wants, no matter the cost, and find ways to bend and manipulate situations and people to help her on her rise to power.
I consider Abigail Williams to be both a strong and weak character in the play The Crucible. For one she is strong because she has nothing to lose in her life and that impacts her on the decisions she makes. She can also be considered a strong character because she has the ability to manipulate people the the way that she wants. Abigail also seems to be intimidating to the other girls, and is the leader of the so called gang. She is considered a strong character by achieving what she wants and the way she wants it. Abigail is also considered a weak character in the play because she is the cause of many deaths on innocent people. She accused many people of witchcraft , just so the she would not get in trouble for dancing. When she runs away. the the point in the play where she is considered as a coward, because she was the cause of the whole hysteria and then flees. In all Abigail can be considered both very strong and weak character.
Do you consider Abigail Williams a strong female character in Arthur Miller's play? Why or Why not? Support with specific evidence from the story.
I think Abigail Williams is a strong character in The Crucible. One example on how she is strong is that she had nothing to lose. Abigail lost her parents in a Native American raid when she was younger, and is now considered an orphan living in Salem with her Uncle Reverend Parris and Cousin Betty. Another example is her manipulative ways and how she can get what she wants. Since she is a very pretty girl, she can act seductive towards many characters, especially to John Proctor. Also, she thinks of a mischievous plan on how to get things to go her way.

ReplyDeleteI believe that Abigail Williams is a strong female character in The Crucible.

ReplyDeleteI believe that Abigail is a strong female character in the play because of she obtains power and how she uses and manipulates it.

ReplyDeleteI consider Abigail a strong female character in the play because she has characteristics that can persuade people’s minds.

ReplyDeleteI believe Abigail Williams is a strong character in the play because of her manipulative personality.
ReplyDeleteAbigail is a strong woman in many ways.
ReplyDeleteI do not consider Abigail a strong female character because I think that she is rebellious, manipulative and isn't very honest.
ReplyDeleteI do believe that Abigail Williams is a strong character as a woman.
ReplyDeleteIn all honestly i believe Abigail represents both opinions.

ReplyDeleteI consider Abigail a strong women for her age. She grew up without parents and/or a reputation. She is the only teenage that can get the whole town to believe her words.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Abigail is both a strong and weak character at the same time.
ReplyDeleteIn some ways, I consider Abigail a strong female character, but in other ways, I don't.

ReplyDeleteI do not consider Abigail to be a strong female character in The Crucible.

She controls all of the girls who are accusing, and accuses people who have burned her in the past.
ReplyDeleteI consider Abigail Williams a strong female character in Arthur Miller's play.
ReplyDeleteWhy yes, Abigail Williams is indeed a strong, if not the strongest character in the play.

DeleteFor a girl in a Puritan society during the 1600's, I do consider Abigail to be a strong female character in the play, but she is definitely not the strongest.

ReplyDeleteI consider Abigail Williams a very strong character in the story.
ReplyDeleteI do consider Abigail Williams to be a strong female character, especially living in the Puritan lifestyle.

ReplyDeleteKristina Nguyen, Per. 4

ReplyDeleteByron Parilla, Per. 4

ReplyDeleteI think Abigail Williams is a strong character in The Crucible.
