Religion in Government: Debate

In Arthur Miller's The Crucible, government in Puritan society is constructed by religious beliefs.

Please answer the following two questions in an organized response. Support your argument with specific examples.
1) Do you believe that religion should have any say in government affairs?
2) What role do you think religion should play in our society?

Write your name and your period at the end of your response.

Topics concerning religion are often controversial in nature, igniting strong opinions and actions. Please make sure that the words and the tone you choose to use in your response are professional. You may use current events in the news or examples from life to support your point. However, I will not tolerate any prejudice or hate speech directed towards specific groups of people. While I don't want to restrict your voice, content deemed offensive will be evaluated for disciplinary consequences.

If you feel uncomfortable with expressing your views in a public forum, you can e-mail me your response and state your discomfort with sharing your views.

  1. My opinion when it comes to religion and government is that religion shouldn’t have anything to do with how the community is controlled by. Religion is more like an option in life. Everyone has the right to pick their own religion. The government thinks in a certain way that religion is mostly going to disagree. The government should have controlled of most of subject but religion shouldn’t have all control.

In society religion should only play in people who accept a specifics religion. Religion is an option in everyone’s life. So in society, people shouldn’t be forced to go to church or have meeting for the church. The role that religion should have is just having church on Sundays and if the church chooses to have prayer on Tuesday or any other day of the week but it should be optional at all times.

  2. No, I don’t believe religion should play a role in any government affairs. The idea of religion being one with government may sound appealing. Muslim culture promotes the idea of political leaders following Islam as well. But even if almost entire countries follow the same religion, there will always be a minority that doesn’t have the same faith. Those minorities would be prosecuted and shunned for what they believe in. Government and religion shouldn’t intertwine at all. Government officials should make decisions to better all of their people; not making decisions based on their faith. Religion has the ability to move and motivate people but sometimes it’s in the wrong way. Extremists are everywhere. There are Islamic extremists turning to violent tactics like bombings and assassinations to achieve their Jihad goals. Jihad is defined as “a religious war with those who are unbelievers in the mission of Muhammad.” Christian extremists view Old and New Testament scriptures as reasoning to induce killing and violence to bring the “end times” in the New Testament.
I think religion should give society a higher sense of morality. All religions differ, but they mostly preach for people to be the best they can be. But at the same time religions should be united. We all believe in different things. Some people don’t believe in religion at all; however, society should be accepting of all religions.

  3. I personally believe that religions should not have any influence in government affairs. Looking at events like the ongoing conflicts between countries in the Middle East, or even further, the crusades, I feel that religions have actually done more harm to societies rather than good. Of course, I’m not generalizing that every religious person is like this but rather the religious fanatics who takes the words of their God to the extreme. Religions have also been, as far as I can see, the main reasons for discrimination and hate towards certain groups of people. These factors led me to think that moral ethics and common sense are much more crucial for a strong government rather than basing decisions off of religious beliefs.

As for the role of religions, I think they are great for people who want to follow a certain way of life that they see as correct or good. I have also heard of stories from people who say that their life felt hopeless and bleak until they found God. I am happy for them and that they got back up on their feet again. But, I still feel that religions are something that you should keep to yourself and not try to force upon others. An example from my life was a best friend I had back in elementary and middle school. We were great friends who trusted each other with everything; however, I told him that I was an atheist and that was the end of it. His attitude towards me changed and the rest is history. Religion is an option and should not have a role in deciding how a country or state is run.

  4. I don't believe religion should have say in government affairs. Religion in government complicates things. For instance, the governments rule usually revolves around wherever the power lies in the religion. Religion should not be forced on to people in any manner; people should be free to choose what they want, if they want to practice religion. If the government thought differently than what the religion wanted them to think there would be conflict. Who has the right to say what goes when both sides disagree? Religion, maybe? It does seem to precede the government.

I believe religion should be something extra. It should be a way to relieve oneself of stress or sins, depending on the religion, by the manner of selfless acts and becoming closer to the god or gods the individual believes in. Religion could be a way to find peace or anything else that the religion has to offer. Religion should be separate from the government completely- no ties between either.

  5. I believe that religion should not have any say or power in the government. Governments, in my opinion, should be able to stay neutral in order to retain fairness and equality in an un-biased matter. If religion and politics mixed, I don't think this could happen. In the Philippines, it seems to me that Catholicism plays a part in the government somehow. The Catholic church wants to abolish any laws or bills regarding women's health because it is believed that any forms of birth control (condoms, the pill, etc.) are forms of abortion. I don't think the Catholic church should have a say in these government affairs because this mindset might trample on an individual's personal rights.

I think everyone should be able to choose whether or not to practice any religion they please. It should be a means of self expression, and if an individual has a set of morals based on the teachings of his or her religion, then he or she should be able to practice them without imposing them onto anyone who is unwilling.

  6. 1) I do not believe religion should have any say in government affairs. Religion should be kept on its own contrary and left out of any forms of governments. Government is ran by the voices of the people, religion should have nothing to do with it.

    2) On the other hand, religion should ply a big role in our society. Religion is often discriminated by one another in today's society. Each religion has its own say in its own way, and that should be allowed to have a say in our society. Tom many, religion is almost everything; which is why religion should play a big enough role to our people of today's society.

  7. I believe only a few things should have a say in the government. People should be able to follow their own religions and do whatever they can freely (unless it's used for malicious purposes). Overall, I don't think religion should be mixed with government just so that people aren't biased by what religion they are and what they're going to be able to do (if religion DOES get mixed up with government affairs).

I think religion should just help with the role of showing what kind of people we are and how we grew up. I think it's nice to have such a diverse world, whether it be evil or not. It's always interesting to know there's a lot of other people with different points of views.
Personally, religion gives me something to believe in and it makes me feel safe knowing there's always something to look up to.

  8. I believe government and religion should be separated and not cross paths. Some people believe in things that others may not. Everybody may not have the same beliefs as another person and can cause conflicts if it were to intervene with government/politics. Government is something that we use to govern our lives in a straight forward way and doesn't have us do or believe in something we don't want to believe in. It tells us our rights and tells us what to do and not to do. It's a form of control for everybody. If religion were to have a say in politics there would always be fighting and corruption as people may not like a certain idea, god, worship, etc.

I think religion should be an option for everybody who wants to believe in what they want to believe. People should be free to think, act, speak however they want with their religion. It should be kept private and not interfere with politics as everybody think differently when it comes to religion. Religion should be a way for humans to express ourselves in certain ways and teach us from right and wrong.

  10. 1) Do you believe that religion should have any say in government affairs?
-I don't believe that religion should have a say in governement affairs. One reason is because religion and what the goverenment does are two very different topics. I think that everyone has the right to believe in whatever religion that they choose, but it should not be in any of the government's affairs whatsoever. The government is more for the people, and religion should only be apart of a person's personal life.

    2) What role do you think religion should play in our society?
-I think that people should be allowed to believe in any religion they choose, whether people want to or not. Religion is a big part in most of peoples' everyday lives. For example, I grew up as a Catholic. My religion helps me feel better after I go to Church and pray, and it honestly makes me feel better about life.

  11. I believe that religion should not have any say in the government’s affairs because they both have different ways of thinking. The government might think some law is unfair while a certain religion finds it acceptable. The government is full of representatives we choose that fight for our rights and keep our country safe and religion has nothing to do with it so it shouldn’t have a say.
I think that religion should just play the role of being a lifestyle or an option for people who want something to believe and have faith in. Each religion is different and should have some say in society because there are people out there who believe religion is everything.

    1. I believe that religion should not have any say in government affairs. Although many religious beliefs may be the same throughout the world, religion itself is not universal. The different religions may influence an individual’s view of a certain subject. In one religion a certain action may be perfectly normal; however, in a different religion that same action can be greatly looked down upon. Furthermore, there will always be a certain minority of people that are not being represented by the religion in “power” in the government. This can create a problem in the representative and democratic system we live in. Government affairs should only be carried out with the benefit of the people in mind.

Religion does have an important role in society. It provides people a support system of faith. That can be very important in unifying and understanding other people. Although it may not be as extreme as it was in the past, religion still holds some power among people. It shapes people culturally among their own communities. I believe one of the most important characteristics of religion today, is that it provides a set of morals and ethics for people. Every religion will promote humanity in one way or another.

    1. I don’t think religion should have any say in government affairs because we have so many kind of religion that it would be hard to listen to what every religion has to say in how to run the government.
    2. Religion should play a role outside of politic. Even though religions help you understand humanity, it doesn’t really help with politic. For example, certain religion doesn’t believe in gay marriage or abortion because they believe that God created an equal amount of men and women and that we are not giving the unborn rights by killing them. Yet, if we give the unborn the right, they we are taking the right from the women that have to carry those unborn babies around. Religion should be a part of our everyday life, as long as it doesn’t have anything to do with our government because most of the time government and religion clash.

  13. I don't think that religion should have some but not that much say in government because, for example, in America, there are many different religions. I don't think it would be easy to listen to a bunch of different religions where some have completely different ideas and, I guess, rules.

Sorry if this counts as a lazy response, but I don't think religion should be involved in politics. I think religion should just be giving people something to believe in.

  14. I believe that there should be separation of church and state. The job of the government is to improve life for its people. Many religions tend to be intolerant of others; in a society in which many different religions are practiced, the combination of church and state may not be beneficial for religions that are practiced by the minority. This further intensifies the tensions between different religions, and as a result, worsens the lives of people within the society.

I believe that the role of religion in society is a complex one. Religion gives people a commonality and people tend to be comfortable in a society in which they share traits with others. However, religions tend to be intolerant and people of one religion tend to hold grudges against people of another religion over confrontations that may have occurred hundreds, if not thousands of years ago. This intense hatred between peoples of two different religions creates tension in a society which can cause the society will stagnate.

  15. I think that religion should not be part of government affairs. First of all the Untied States is a very diverse country and it would not be fair to choose one religion to represent our country. Many religions have similar beliefs, but others really contrast. And when people do not agree with their government which in this case religion would be a big part of, they could start chaos. Government affairs should be completely distinct with religious beliefs.

The role that religion should play in one's society should be very small. However in everyone's individual life, religion would have a big pat. Living in the diverse society of now a day the same religion would not apply to everyone. As having the right to choose ant religion you choose it would not be fair that there would be one certain religion that would that would influence our society. In all religion should not play a big part in our society.

  16. 1. In all honesty i don't believe that religion should have a part in government affairs. Well if you think about it, maybe a small portion should, but then again it would only be directed to people of that specific religion. Religion is so diverse all through the nation that we even have multiple gods, which would make it impossible for the same rule to apply for all, if religion was a matter in government. If religion was added in government, it would cause major disputes and collisions in society...which we really don't need added on.
    2. I think that whatever religion people believe in that they should just keep faith. They should keep it in their lives as a "natural thing" rather than it completely ruling their life to the extreme. It gives a person opportunity to feel "free" in a sense, and look at humanity in various ways.

  18. I believe that religion shouldn’t have any say in government affairs because religion is completely different from government. Religion is just the personal beliefs of people, while the government is meant to give order to the lives of people. Religion shouldn’t be involved with government affairs because religion doesn’t always make sense. The best thing to do is to think of rational ways to solve those government affairs, instead of trying to solve it with what people believe in. Also, many people have different religions. Everyone has different beliefs, and that will just cause conflict between people if religion is used in government affairs.

I think religion should just be kept personal in our society. People should just keep and practice their religion to themselves. There is no problem with religion if people choose to let it guide them in life, but it shouldn’t be related to politics. A person’s belief shouldn’t be what people base their decisions on in the government. Instead, they should base their decisions on what is rational.

  19. In my opinion, I don’t believe that religion should have any say in government affairs. A religion-based form of government, also known as theocracies, recognizes a deity as the “supreme ruler” of that particular society. I believe modern theocracies have more disadvantages than advantages; for example, there are fewer freedom and rights in a theocratic state than in any other forms of government. In addition to that, those with a different religion in regards to the major religions are often severely punished. Freedom of religion, as well as speech, are extremely restricted and limited, and laws based off of the theocratic state are more likely to be unreasonable and unfair. In other words, religion should not have a say in government affairs because it does more wrong than right. Other forms of government that are not religion based, such as democracies, are considered more “desirable” because it is mainly based on the people, and allows individual freedom and rights to the society. Overall, religion should be kept as a personal belief rather than an impact in government affairs.

In our society, I believe that religion should be a choice for people to follow if they decide to. Often, following a certain religion makes people feel more “comfortable” and “free,” as people express it they way they please. Those without a certain religion can also feel that way because there are no pressures in having to follow a particular religion. In my life, my religion has a direct impact in the way I view the world, and continues to provide me with my own sense of individuality. Overall, freedom of religion continues to be a fundamental part in our society.

  20. In my opinion, I believe religion should not have a say in government affairs. Religion would only create trouble for the government, as there are always conflicts between different religions. Government is meant to be equal and fair.

I believe religion allows people to feel more close to one another as when one has something in common with another person of the same interest. Religion is for those who want to believe in it. People have the freedom to choose what religion they want, or no religion at all. Though, I believe religion should not be presented to the public much, because there are always different views people will have of each religion.

  21. I personally do not believe religion should have any part in the government. I feel like anyone in government should be unbiased, I know it is unrealistic to think someone can just check their feelings and viewpoints at the door; however in government it should not be what is best for your views but for the country as a whole. An example of this is the election going on right now in the US, Mitt Romney believes that women should not be able to have abortions or birth control. His stand point is coming from his personal views and not what is best for America as a whole.

Religion should play a personal role in society. By this I mean that everyone should be free to practice and believe in what ever religion they choose. Although bringing it into the government is not a good choice.

  22. I believe the church should be separated from government affairs. Everyone has the right to choose what religion they want to practice to, and not a specific religion that is forced upon them. If the church meddled with the government, it would influence laws and eventually surround the beliefs of the church. This then would lead to discrimination towards people who are practicing different religions and set of beliefs. Every citizen has the freedom to choose what they believe in and should not get disrespected for it.

I believe religion should be a choice to individuals if they feel the need to believe in it. It shouldn't have to apply to everyone if they don't want to. Religion gives faith and is a way for people to express their beliefs. As a society, we should treat religion as an opinion rather than a law to force on others.

  23. Religion in Government Questions
    1. I personally believe that religion should not play a role in government affairs mainly because not everyone believes in the same religion or any religion for that matter. Religion already plays a large part in our government currently. For example, the American embassies that became under attack in the Middle East because of the extremely controversial anti-Mohammad video. Religion has caused hundreds of riots, movements, and mainly problems when conflicted with the government in the past. Religion should not be mixed with government affairs because it would simply be more problematic than it would beneficial.

    2. Religion currently plays a huge role in society, has been for centuries, and will likely continue as long as people believe in their own faiths and beliefs. I think the current role religion has in society is fine. As long as the government isn’t forcing people to follow a certain religion or normal public schools start teaching religion, I’m fine with religion being something people do in their free time, as something extra for people to get away from the real world.

  24. I think that religion shouldn't have a say in government affairs. This could cause the balance to teeter to one religion. Also it would not be fair to the community if one group gets more benefits. People of other religions would also be affected because of discrimination to the other religion.

I think religion should only affect the individual who chooses to follow that religion. Also religion should be a benefit to the person who believes in it and not pushed towards anyone specific. Religion should also be respected by others who don't follow the same religion.

  25. I believe that religion should not have a say in government affairs. If government officials start making laws or decisions based off of there personally religion and beliefs it would cause turmoil in the country. The government needs to make the best decision for the people as a whole, not to a specific religion. If the president or congressmen base on there religion all the people that follow a different religion would cause civil disputes.

The role of religion in society should be to help the individual find salvation. You go to church and see all your fellow Christians or whatever religion it may be, and worship in the church. That's what church is for, to meet with people who belief the same beliefs as you and worship the Lord without any judgement or drama from anyone else with different beliefs.

  26. I believe that religion should not be a part of government affairs. What's the point of being an individual if the government will force us to believe in one specific religion.

I think religion should be an option for other people, because not everyone believes in religion. Religion should not always be the center of one's society because it always leads to chaos. 27. I believe that religion should not have any say in government affairs. Different religions, have their own views on topics and that their opinions shouldn't affect how the government should be operated. If religion was allowed to have a say in any government affairs, then the government would be corrupt from different views and beliefs.

Religion is a part of our lifestyle and an option for us to believe and practice what or who we believe in. Different religions leads to conflict because of different views or what religion another person believes in. An example of conflict would be the Muslims and Jews fighting over territory.

  28. 1) I believe religion is something that governs a certain person or group of people. It is not forced upon a person but instead is chosen to be placed upon them. Different religions involve different beliefs and rituals. The United States government governs all of the United States citizens that must follow a certain set of guidelines voted by the people. I believe religion and government should be separated and not combined. Religion is a personal choice and regards only that particular person while government regards the United States as a whole and what is best for the citizens instead of just one human being who believes in a certain religion. Therefore I believe religion should not have a say in government and vice versa.

    2) As in question 1, I believe religion should be an activity that people choose to participate in. I believe all religions should have the freedom to worship the way they want without having others outside the religion forcing laws upon them that go against there religion. Government should have respect for others religion as well as religion should have respect for government.

  29. I think that religion should not have anything to do with government affairs. Religion was not made to have relevance with governments in the first place. There are just a lot of individuals who don't see the irrelevance between government affairs and religion.

Religion still plays a major role in society today. It plays the sort of roles where a lot of people will judge you based on your religion, how some people will treat you, how it may shape your reputation, and your actions. However, there are times where people get too involved in one's religion in a bad which I think is unacceptable.

  31. In my opinion, any type of religion shouldn't have a say on how to run government affairs. The reason being is that decisions can be biased due to different beliefs. I believe that people should not have to be forced upon anything religion-related. Although religion is a way of life to some people, others should not have to believe in what they don't want to believe in. This can also create hysteria amongst all citizens because of the fact that not everybody believes in one common religion. The government and religion are completely different; therefore, it should stay that way to avoid any potential conflicts this may create.

I think that religion's role in our society varies from each individual. Depending on if a person believes in a religion or not, religion plays a big or a small role in our society. For most people, religion is a way of life in which they practice day to day. How they live their everyday lives is based upon their religion's different morals and beliefs. For those who don't believe, religion is not a big deal. Although everybody has different opinions regarding religion, I believe that it should be respected amongst all. 32. 1. Religion should not be apart of of government business. Religion and government should be kept divided because not everyone believes in religion. The government's role is to make decisions that best satisfy the needs of most of the people not just a specific group. By not involving religion less disputes would arise amoungst the people and more rational decioons would be made.

    2. Religion plays a big part of our society today. Many people are greatly influenced by the belief that they have . That belief can either influence our society positively or negatively depending on the point of view of other people. In many cases disputes have came about because of disagreements between religion, society and the government.
I believe people have the freedom to practice their religion freely and be able to express themselves without the fear of being judged.Nobody has the right to discriminate or say people are wrong for what they believe in. But i also believe religion should have no role in our society because everyone has different beliefs.

  33. I think that religion should have a say in government affairs for only special occasions. To me, government affairs should apply for all of the general public, so that no one would be left out. If religion were to have a say in government affairs, there would be some people being excluded. If the government were to do things that the peoples' religion did believe in doing, then that's when religion would apply to the government.

I think religion is a very serious thing in our society, because most people have a kind of religion. Everyone that has a religion has been following their beliefs, so that way, it doesn't conflict with the laws or their own life. Religion takes part in people that believe what they want to believe, and have them apply what they believe in life. With all the different religions, everyone that has a religion may believe in different things, depending where they came from or how they were raised. Since religion has influence people in different ways, people are more close with others that have the same religion.

  34. I believe that religion shouldn’t play any role in the government affairs. Religion and government are two different things; religion is a personal belief and government makes decision for the best of the country. Also, it will become biased if religion takes part in the government affairs. In Middle East, many people are angry and think that our government hates their religion; it led to violence and protests in the streets around the US embassy.

I think that religion plays a big role in our society. There are different kinds of religion around the world and people are free to believe whatever they want. Religion teaches you a set of values or morals that school doesn’t teach. People use religion as a source of healing and to make themselves a better person.

  35. I believe that religion should not partake in any government affairs. Religion itself has its own conflicts, and if it were to be involved in government affairs, it would get even more complicated. The government is meant to make decisions based on what’s best for the people; whereas religion is simply a belief system. Even today we run a government that has a separation of church and state and has done just fine. Religion in government affairs would just cause unnecessary problems.

In our society, religion should just be an option for people to have. People that follow a religion use it as a way to help them in life, and use it to guide them to become a better person. Religious individuals should be able to practice their religion freely, but should not force it upon others. Overall, religion is just an option that people can follow or not bother with.

  37. I don't think that religions should play a role in government affairs. Religion is a sense of belief, and sometimes that belief may not be the best decision for the country. For example, the incident with 911 is an example of how religion may be promoting the wrong thing. Government is suppose to better the lives of its people. If religion were in control, the decisions made will be too biased.

Religion plays an important role in our society. It gives people a sense of morality to better themselves. It is also a lifestyle in which they preach in what they believe in. Although there are many different types of religion and beliefs, it should be respected amongst everyone. People should be able to believe in what they want without any restrictions.

  38. I don’t believe that religion should play a part in government affairs. Since everybody has their own views about religion and what they believe in, it may cause conflicts. The idea of religion and state should be separate because the government may favor a certain religion which will make the citizens hate the government. I think it would not be fair to the community if one group gets all the benefits. Some people practice their religion on a daily basis and some don’t. People who follow a religion use it as a guide to help them in life and how to make them a better person. No matter what, religious or not, people should respect other religions.

  39. In my opinion, religion should not have any saw in the government. Religion is what one believe in, but not everyone has the same believe, therefore causing conflict. In the past having the government base of religion did not work out. (The English Reformation) I believe we must learn from the mistakes of the past and not repeat history. I believe the government should be like a robot and take no sides. That way the people would have a chose in what they believe in and not be at a disadvantage. Another case was a few years back, a father in California sued the gov to take out “In God we trust” part of the…thingy. This case made it all the way to the Supreme Court. But rather rule on this highly debatable issue, the court took the easy way out. They said that the father did not have ownership of his daughter therefore could not sue.
Religion should also take no role in the society. I feel that all religions were made to scam the poor, uneducated, dumb, and stupid people back then to gain power. It has just spread world wide. It is easy to convince one who has nothing because they have nothing to lose. When you have nothing to lose, things can only get better, and religion got the credit. I believe if it’s not scientifically proven it is not true and should only be taken lightly. Like there are some people who go around knocking on doors to get people to join their religion. I feel that is way too much. They should have the right to practice but not to question other people beliefs. Being different is promoted in many society, and what makes a society a thrive. Why must one have the same religion and why must it have any influenced at all? p4

  41. 1. I believe that religion should not have any government affairs. In my opinion, government and religion is two different categories. Religion is what people believe in. Some does not have to be a part of religion at all. It really is their choice. People make up the government. To be a citizen, you practically are the government. You have the right to choose who you want to become president. Religion should not have a say in government affairs because they is nothing in common of the two. Religion has its own path, and so does government. The government has many other conflicts to take care of. While religion has its own.
    2. Religion is an option to everyone. It is their option whether or not they will take part of a religion. Some are really devoted to their religion; practicing and praying every day. However, some aren’t as devoted. Religion for some is a guide in life. It helps them do what is right and what is wrong in life. Though some are not part of any religion, they should still respect those who are involved in religious affairs.

  42. No, I do not believe religion should have a say in government affairs. I believe government and religion should never work together because it is already difficult choosing the type of government we all want to have. Also when you add religion everything becomes much more complicated. Another reason is because adding a certain religion to government wouldn’t be fair to the all the other religions out there, and that would just be unnecessary conflicts that can easily be solved if religion wasn’t part of the government. Having them stay as two separate affairs

I believe religion should just stay away from government, politics, and just be on its own. In our society religion should just be used for people to live their live in order to get into their paradise, like how Christians want to go to heaven. Religion is very big in the world, but it should not be forced onto people where it will make a difference whether good or bad to anyone including non-believers. Religions are just used to have something to look forward to during the after live, rebirth, or any type of heaven people may believe in.

  43. I believe that religion should have a role in how the government works. Religion is based on your god beliefs and not about laws and order. The government shouldn't force the people to believe in a specific religion; they should believe in whatever their culture's beliefs are. The governments job it so keep the country and society together and have some sort of order, but not to demand people towards a certain religion.

Religion in society can be an option depending on the person. Someone shouldn’t be forced to practice a religion if they don't believe in its beliefs. This is allowing each individual to self express themselves. Society and government shouldn’t force anyone to worship a god or go to church. Religion should definitely not be tied together with government.

  44. 1. Even though religion has helped made government throughout the years, it should have little to no say in government affairs unless it is directly pointed to the specific religion. Some religions can choose to do favoritism, and that is not really fair for the non-favorite side of an affair. Not many religions are as strict as others, but some can be strict enough that they can use some power of from the government to enforce their religious beliefs on others. In the past, some may have killed for their religion being mocked and others may just have said something that may help them change their minds.

    2. Religion should be a topic for people to learn, to enjoy and be open about. Sometimes religion can help someone from a time of depression, it can help keep one's life busy, it can be a person's major for college and many more. Some of today's major events had to do with religion, like the video that mocked the values of the Muslim faith.

  45. No, I don't believe religion and government should even think of working together because that would create much conflict than what we already have. If the government had to force its people on only one religion it would be chaos and corrupt everything in between. I think religion should remain independent and optional and away from any government affair. Looking at many cases around the world, a huge number of countries have suffered mainly based on religion as to having their leader or ambassadors killed. This proves that the two subjects should never be associated together.

I think religion should stay the way it is right now. Having a religion forced upon you is a huge concern that could lead to problems. Religion is and should always remain independent. It is the right of the people to choose on their own beliefs and have the right to practice any kind of religious activities they want.

  46. 1)Government and religion should be separated because if government became associated with religion then a lot of people with different religions would clash and just not be able to co exist at all.

2)The role of religion in our everyday lives is fine the way it is. People aren't forced to join certaion religions. And even when people are involved with religions, it is up to them how muc they participate in any kind of church relateed activities. On top of that religion is more of a choice then a daily life style. Which is very important.

  48. No, I do not believe that religion should have a say in government affairs. Although I believe that religion has highly influenced governments from around the world, I feel that they should be separate matters. I believe that affiliating religion and government would create conflict and upset many people since there are multiple different religions and people have different beliefs from one another.

I think the role that religion plays in our society is fine the way it is. There will never be a time where all the people in the world will agree on one religion, and there will definitely be disagreements and issues from this topic but that's already given. If people are being forced to believe in something, this will create even more world problems. I feel that each religion should just respect each other's beliefs and practices although they might not agree with it.

  49. i dont think that religion should be incorporated into our government. if religion was in government the government wold be subjugated to be one religion. The government would try to base the country on the religion its influenced by.

Religion keeps societies together. allowing multiple religions lets people express themselves.

  50. 1) I believe that religion and government are two separate parts of our lives. In my opinion, mixing religion and government will only result in choas, as we've seen with the puritans. I think that government officailas should not be bias towards one faction of people based on their religion.

    2) I believe that religion should play a major role in our society because religion represents our beliefs and morals, which a well off society needs. Religion teaches us that there is a higher purpose to living in this world. It allows us to know right from wrong on a deeper level than those of us without religion.
